Field: Agriculture, food and food security
Subfield: Agricultural land
Details:
Agricultural land includes the total land area that contributes directly or indirectly to the development of agricultural activity (for instance, farms, land temporarily fallow (consequently, not cultivated), meadows, etc.). Agricultural land is evaluated by cadastre institutions at national level and expressed in square kms (the same unit used to determine a state’s land area). Together with the indicator Arable land, this indicator offers a picture of the agricultural production potential. Statistical data shows that Romania has lost approximately 7.5% of the total agricultural land in 34 years (in the period 1980-2014). However, our country has double the agricultural land of Hungary or Bulgaria, second to Poland only in the region.
