This indicator calculates the production of crops from cultivated land harvested for dry grain only. The unit of measure is kg per hectare and is measured based on a methodology developed by national institutions in the field. It is noteworthy that Romania has the second fastest growth rhythm of cereal yield among analysed countries (second only to Poland), ahead of Hungary and Bulgaria. In 1980, Romania was first among CEE countries, in the period 1983-1987 Romania and Poland had approximately the same cereal yield (approximately 20 million metric tons), with Poland faring better than Romania in the last 40 years. According to 2016 data, Poland’s cereal yield is over 50% higher than Romania's.
