The indicator Criminal offences is a fundamental indicator in the subfield Public order. This indicator gives an image of the security of the community, detailing various violent offences. It shows the state of civic insecurity of individuals and the community, influencing the way citizens perceive public institutions’ capacity to ensure public order. The indicator is built around data series from Eurostat. It can be used to compare community security, to identify weaknesses in public order strategies, and to build policy instruments.
