Subfield: The state of health of the population
Details:
This indicator highlights the most frequent causes of death, taking into account the disease or injury leading directly or indirectly to death. The statistics about the causes of death are based on two sources: medical information from death certificates and the codes of causes of death, set out by the World Health Organisation. Usually, statistics refer to mortality associated with the following categories of disease: neoplasms, diseases of the circulatory system, diseases of the respiratory system, hepatitis, TB, diabetes, etc. All deaths are identified by the main cause of death. The data for 2013 show that Romania has the second highest mortality by diseases of the circulatory system (after Bulgaria), and is halfway to the top for deaths by neoplasm or diseases of the respiratory system.
Units: standardized death rate per 100 000 inhabitants
