Field: Energy and natural resources
Subfield: Energy
Details:
One of the attributes of economic development is to create jobs sustainably. Although across the world the energy sector is one of the main contributors to GDP, the number of jobs in the energy sector is generally low; however, this number can remain relatively stable, when there are no significant structural changes in the field. In Romania, the energy sector has been constantly restructured in the last decades. Correlated to the EU aim of increasing the use of renewable resources (employing fewer people), this has led to the visible decrease in the number of jobs in the energy sectors. For instance, in 2015, in the energy production sector were employed 80% of the number of employees in 2008 (65% for petroleum and gas extraction).
