This indicator expresses the percentage of employees in high and medium high-technology manufacturing and knowledge-intensive sectors. It refers to employees in organisations that produce knowledge in society (employees in sectors of activity directly connected to research and knowledge production), as percentage of total labour force. This indicator is relevant to knowledge-based economy, expressed in EU directives. The data for this indicator is offered by the International Labour Organisation to the national institutes of statistics and published annually by Eurostat. In 2017, the percentage for Romania was 22.3, approximately half of EU average.
