This indicator measures the expenses from the public budget on the prevention, reduction and elimination of pollution or degradation of the environment, measured as % of GDP. The indicator measures environmental protection investment (machinery and equipment used for environmental protection) and current expenditure on pollution prevention or reduction. The level of this indicator reflects the preoccupation of the government and of the private sector for sustainable development. Data is collected annually, since 2002, and is presented by country. The level of the expenditure (EU average) has been constantly at approximately 0.7 of GDP. In Romania’s case, after a maximum of 0.81% in 2010, the figures dropped to 0.46% in 2013.
