Field: Agriculture, food and food security
Subfield: Food and food security
Details:
This is a composite indicator, that takes into consideration the production of the main food crops (cereals, vegetables, fruits, seeds, etc.) that contain nutrients, compared to the average consumption prices in the year of measurement. The base period 2004-2006, 100 units, has been chosen for reference. It is noteworthy that in the last 20 years Romania has been constantly close to the reference value of 100 units, which indicates a high level of stability in food security. The methodology has been developed by FAO for the World Bank. A derivate indicator shows food deficit (measured in kilocalories per person per day), which points to the evolution of poor population. At this moment Romania does not report data to the World Bank for this indicator.
