Field: Environment and sustainable development
Subfield: Climate change and air pollution
Details:
This indicator monitors GHG emissions, formed of gaseous compounds that absorb infrared radiation, trapping and holding heat in the atmosphere. These gases are measured in million tonnes of CO2-equivalents. The data is presented per sectors, by source: agriculture, energy, industry and buildings, transport, etc. The values of the indicator are presented by countries, since 1990. GHG emissions reduction is one of the targets set by the EU for environment protection and conservation of animal and plant species. In the last 25 years, Romania has managed to reduce these emissions by approximately 50% compared to 1990 figures. Thus, in 2015, Romania emitted 117.8 million tonnes of CO2-equivalents, 3.8 times lower than Poland.
