Subfield: Infrastructure
Details:
Higher costs generated by an insufficiently developed freight transport infrastructure directly show in the cost of these goods on the market and, implicitly, in the living costs in general (especially when we talk about vital goods such as food or clothes). Costs associated with freight transport infrastructure (logistics, the distribution of products, the costs of depositing goods, etc.) are similar to fixed costs that goods and services producers can hardly drop or avoid including in the final selling price. Romania is fourth in the region as regards the volume of goods transported by rail, after Poland, the Czech Republic, and in competition with Hungary. The volume of goods transported by rail in Romania has been stagnating, without significant evolutions compared to 8 years ago. The same is true of the goods transported by road, with the distance from the leader in the region (Poland) much bigger than in the case of goods transported by rail.
