Details:
Gross inland consumption of energy represents the quantity of energy necessary for meeting a country’s internal consumption. One of the EU’s objectives is to reduce consumption of energy by 20% until 2020, mainly by increasing energy efficiency. In Romania’s case, gross inland consumption of energy has been constantly decreasing since 2009, with consumption in 2015 reaching 80% of the consumption in 2008 – the most significant drop in the region. In industry, consumption of energy dropped to merely 25.55% in 2015, compared to 1990, as a result of both deindustrialization, and the replacement of former high energy consumption industries with more efficient industries, energy-wise. Residential consumption of energy has decreased, as well, reaching 69% in 2015 compared to 1990, in the context of demographic decline and implementation of policies for energy efficiency. No other EU country has had a similar evolution.
