Field: Energy and natural resources
Subfield: Energy
Details:
This indicator shows the percentage of household expenditure on electricity, gas and fuel. The monitorization of the evolution of expenditure on energy is useful for decision-makers, because they can identify potential changes in the energy consumption behaviour, as well as possible social and economic difficulties (for instance, the decrease in the demand for other goods, as a consequence of using the budget for covering energy costs). Romania is a separate case in the current evolution of household expenditure on energy, because the liberalization calendar (that ended in 2018) included progressive thresholds for price increase for households. In this context, in 2015, the percentage of expenditure on energy in household expenditure in Romania was 0.1% higher than the EU average, but considerably lower than the rest of CEE countries.
