Details:
Infant mortality rates take into account the deaths of children who have not completed 1 year of life, registered over a period of time, relative to a thousand live-born infants. Together with the indicator Life expectancy, Infant mortality rates show a population’s health, quality and use of medical services. Correlated with social and economic changes that appear over time, this indicator is relevant for the analysis of public policies and national strategies. Although the infant mortality rate has dropped significantly in the last decades, it is still highest in the EU.
