This indicator refers to the existence of technical equipment and conditions that are necessary for diagnosing and treating patients in medical facilities. According to Eurostat, medical equipment can be analysed by means of two elements: technical resources and medical technology. Technical resources include: operation theatres, day care places, surgical day care, oncological day care, psychiatric day care, etc. Medical technology includes: Radiology, Echography, Computed Tomography Scanners, Magnetic Resonance Imaging Units, Gamma cameras, Angiography units, Mammogram machines, etc. The data on medical technology and technical resources is calculated per 100.000 inhabitants. Romania is among the EU states with a low number of Computed Tomography Scanners, Magnetic Resonance Imaging Units, Mammogram machines or Gamma cameras.
