Innovative firms launch products (goods or services) or have implemented new or significantly improved processes/ organisation or marketing methods. This indicator presents data on these firms in various countries, by size, calculated by number of employees (small, medium and large enterprises). Economic development by extending innovation in all sectors of activity is one of the objectives of Horizon 2020; the EU promotes intensively projects that involve product or process innovation and supports financially innovative active firms. In Romania, the number of innovative active firms has dropped significantly as a consequence of the 2009 economic crisis: in 2014, only 18.5% of the large enterprises, 6.5% of medium enterprises and 5.7% of small enterprises were innovative active firms.
