Field: National security
Subfield: Public order
Details:
The indicator Personnel in the criminal justice system is a fundamental indicator in the subfield Public order. It presents data on the personnel of institutions that have a role in maintaining public order. This indicator is particularly useful when compared to the indicator Criminal offences. This indicator uses Eurostat data and shows one of the capacities of state institutions to serve the citizens. It can be used to compare community security, to identify weaknesses in public order strategies, and to build policy instruments. Eurostat records data from member states, that draw up their reports from administrative records. Member states follow a series of standard definitions (recording the number of police officers, professional judges, personnel in adult prison).
