Primary production of energy

Field: Energy and natural resources

Subfield: Energy

Details:

The primary production of energy is an indicator that shows the potential for reducing energy dependence, one of EU’s preoccupations. Correlated with the indicator for consumption, it offers a perspective on the country’s energy security and takes into account extraction from natural sources. Primary production of energy in Romania is on the decrease overall, being, however, at a similar level with other CEE countries – approximately 70% the value of 2000, compared to the decrease in the primary production of energy in the EU (81%). Romania’s energy mix has changed constantly since 1990. Thus: a) production of energy from natural gas dropped to 40% of 1990 quantity and 80% of 2000 values; b) in 2015 production of energy from crude oil dropped to 66% of 2000 values; c) production of nuclear energy increased by 113% in 2015 compared to 2000, and production of renewable energy, by 44% in the same timeframe.
