This is an index designed by experts from Bertelsmann Stiftung in Germany, based on six dimensions/pillars of variable weight: poverty prevention (5 indicators), equitable education (6 indicators), labour market access (12 indicators), social cohesion and non-discrimination (8 indicators), health (5 indicators), and intergenerational justice (8 indicators). The rating scale ranges from 0 (minimum) and 10 (maximum): the higher the overall value, the better the social justice in that country.
In 2017, at a value of 3.99, Romania was second to last in the European Union, ahead of Greece. On the six dimensions, Romania had the following values: 1.77 (poverty prevention), 4.91 (equitable education), 5.50 (labour market access), 4.33 (social cohesion), 4.21 (health) and 4.72 (intergenerational justice). In 2017, the EU average was 5.85, with Denmark (7.39) and Sweden (7.31) in top positions.
