This indicator refers to the number of physicians by medical speciality, per 100.000 inhabitants. In EU member states, the data looks at the number of physicians in the main specialities: general practitioners, general paediatricians, internal medicine, cardiology and oncology, surgery, emergency medicine. The data on Romania’s development regions shows the number of specialists in family medicine, stomatology and pharmacy. Since 1990, the number of doctors in Romania has increased through the development of the private health system. This phenomenon has been associated with the increase of regional disparities. For instance, in 2015, in North-West region, there were 2473 stomatologists per 100.000 inhabitants, while in South-West Oltenia there were only 1011.
