Percentage of pupils with low performance in PISA

Field: Education and Culture

Subfield: Internal efficiency and results of education

Details:

This indicator shows the share of low performers in PISA among 15-year old students (under level 2 of the scale). The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a triennial survey which aims to evaluate and monitor students’ knowledge, initiated by OECD in the 90s in 60 countries (among which Romania, since 2000). PISA tests fundamental knowledge that is necessary for future social and professional integration. Results are shown separately for the three subject areas: reading, mathematics and science, by sex. As a comparison, most European countries have managed to drop under 25% in the three subject areas, in the latest PISA survey. The surveys for Romania in 2012 and 2015 have shown a very high percentage (38% to 40%) of low performers in each of the three subject areas (mathematics, reading, science).
